To prepare for a carpet cleaning appointment, clear the floor of small items, toys and breakables, secure your pets, point out any problem stains, and make sure the technician can park and get access. We move furniture as part of the service and carry out the pre-vacuum, so there is little you need to do, but clearing the floor and moving any small, light items you easily can beforehand helps the clean go faster and reach more of the carpet. Then plan for 2 to 6 hours of drying time afterwards.

Before the day

  • Clear the floor of small, loose items, toys, shoes, cables, plant pots and anything fragile, so the whole carpet is accessible.
  • Lift floor-length curtains clear of the carpet, and remove rugs you do not want cleaned (or do, if you do).
  • Note the stains you want looked at, and if you know what caused them, that helps us match the treatment.
  • Plan parking and access, our equipment runs from the vehicle, so a reasonably close, clear spot helps.

What we take care of

You do not need to deep-clean before we arrive, that is our job. We carry out a pre-vacuum, identify the fibre, assess the stains, and move furniture as part of the service, cleaning underneath and replacing it. It still helps if you move any small, light items yourself beforehand where you can. Very heavy or delicate pieces (large wardrobes, beds, electronics, antiques) are usually left in place and cleaned around, so let us know in advance about anything specific you would like moved or left.

On the day

  • Secure pets in a room we are not cleaning, or out of the house, for their comfort and safety.
  • Keep children clear of the work area and the wet carpet.
  • Point out the problem areas and mention anything delicate, wool, silk or an heirloom rug, so it gets the right treatment, see why wool needs wool-safe cleaning.

After the clean

Allow 2 to 6 hours of drying time, helped by airflow, see how long carpet takes to dry. Keep pets and children off the carpet until it is dry, see are cleaning chemicals safe for pets and babies. Walk on it as little as possible while damp, and if fabric protection was applied, allow the full 24-hour curing window. We will tell you honestly before we start what can and cannot be removed.

Common questions

How do I prepare for a carpet cleaning appointment?

Clear the floor of small items, toys and breakables, lift floor-length curtains off the carpet, secure your pets, note the stains you want looked at, and make sure the technician can park and access the rooms. We move furniture and handle the pre-vacuum as part of the service; it just helps if you move any small, light items you easily can.

Do I need to move my furniture before carpet cleaning?

We move furniture as part of the service and clean underneath, so you do not have to, though it helps if you move small, light items yourself where you easily can. Very heavy or delicate pieces, large wardrobes, beds, electronics and antiques, are usually left in place and cleaned around. Tell us in advance about anything specific you would like moved or left.

Do I need to vacuum before the cleaners arrive?

You do not have to, a thorough pre-vacuum is part of our process. A light vacuum beforehand does no harm and can help, but deep cleaning the carpet yourself first is unnecessary. The main thing that helps is clearing small items off the floor.
